New online tools for Inari Saami and Ume Saami language learning – open event at Sajos on 5 June 2026
The Interreg Aurora project is organising an open event for everyone at the Solju auditorium in Sajos, Inari on 5 June 2026, from 9:00 to 17:00. The aim of the project is to develop online tools and various kinds of materials for learning Inari Saami and Ume Saami. You are welcome to attend in person at Sajos or participate remotely via Zoom. The Zoom link will be published later.
During the seminar, there will be discussions about the project, its goals, and the new online tools. In addition, experts in the field will give presentations on language revitalisation and language technology more broadly.
The event is intended for everyone interested in Inari Saami, Ume Saami, digital technology, language revitalisation, and Saami-language education. Participants will also have the opportunity to discuss what kinds of materials are most needed at the moment. The language communities will be able to influence the content and layout of the online tool to some extent, and the project team would like to hear their ideas and comments. The language of the event is English, but participants may also use Swedish and Ume Saami.
More information will be published later. The event is free of charge and open to the public. Anarâškielâ servi (Inari Saami Language Association) will serve coffee, tea, and snacks.
The European Union is the main funder of the Interreg Aurora project. Other funders include the Regional Council of Lapland in Finland and the counties of Västerbotten and Norrbotten in Sweden.
